Hello, I am Jeff Sheffield. I am a husband, father of triplets, and a programmer in sunny, sometimes down right hot.. Austin, Texas. I am definitely in the practitioner camp of software development. I am a linux ecosystem developer, I like to open the box and twiddle all of the shiny bits.
This #456 xkcd sums up my professional-life from post the middle 2k’s and is one of my favorites.
I have run linux ‘various flavors’ as my primary desk since the 90′s. I have done this even though a lot of that time it did not fit into the corporate policy to do so. ( I’m such a rebel!) I get away with this because I make sure the products they deliver on linux get packaged up and delivered correctly. I would like to mention that I as completely a sane individual before Daniel Robbins created Gentoo. Actually:
I you truly want to learn linux, then install a source based distribution
I’m still trying to figure out the answer to this question.
Who do you want to be when you grow up?
Mostly the answer is ‘full-stack-web-developer’. However pilot, skydiver, spelunker, cyclist, race car driver, hockey/basketball player also make the list.
Why do you blog?
I have forgotten more things than I remember. Did I mention I have three teenagers.
I had a website (jspot.org) in the late 90′s ‘before children’ which had a lot of reference. Today I have a hodge-podge of notes in google docs, located in $ find . -iname “readme.*”, all over the place really, on several different servers, many of which are behind firewalls. The goal here is to start putting something down that will stand the test of time. I have even already made a back-up of the data this time. ‘Wisedom’
Also in the interest of full disclosure: I am blogging to create a personal brand.
